Washing your car properly isn’t just about keeping it clean — it’s about preserving your paint, enhancing gloss, and protecting your investment. At The Detail Formula, we believe in a simple, effective process that gets professional results without the guesswork. Follow our proven 8-step method for the perfect car wash every time.
Pre-Foam with GSF

Begin with a generous coating of Koch Chemie GSF, our pH‑neutral pre‑wash
foam. The neutral formula (pH 7) is gentle on all coatings—including sealants and waxes—so you'll lift dirt without stripping your protection. It neutralises contaminants and safely loosens them from your clear coat.
Five‑Minute Dwell Time
Once the foam is applied, don’t rush it. Let it dwell for 5 minutes so the surfactants can soften road grime, brake dust, and bug residue without drying. In hot or direct sunlight, mist the surface occasionally with water to keep the foam active. This is your window to let the chemistry do the heavy lifting so that manual contact later is smoother and safer.
Rinse Thoroughly

Use a pressure washer or a strong garden hose to rinse off all foam and loosened debris. This is also your cue to open doors and rinse door jambs, hinges, wheel arches, and sills, areas where grime builds up and is frequently overlooked. A thorough rinse now sets the stage for your safest contact wash.
Foam Again for Extra Lubrication
Reapply GSF foam to provide a slick surface for your wash pad to glide across. This extra lubrication traps any remaining dirt in the foam and fibres, preventing scratches during contact washing. Think of it as adding a cushion so your wash pad glides effortlessly without harsh friction.
Two‑Bucket Contact Wash

The two-bucket method is essential for a swirl‑free finish:
One bucket is filled with fresh water and a cap full of GSF. This is our Soap Bucket.
The second bucket contains clean rinse water. This is our Rinse Bucket
Dip your wash pad into the soapy bucket, wash half a panel, flip the pad
over to complete the panel, then rinse the pad thoroughly in the clean water bucket, never back into your soap bucket. Once rinsed, the add more soap from the soap bucket and repeat the process.
Flip the pad often and wring out well before re-soaping.
Save the lower panels, front and real bumpers till last and they are the dirtiest part of the vehicle.
This prevents trapped grit from being reintroduced to the paint. For enhanced safety, use a grit guard to settle grit to the bottom of each bucket. Wash top-to-bottom, left-to-right, to avoid dragging dirt upward.

Final Rinse
After washing each panel, rinse thoroughly to remove all soap, foam, and loosened dirt. Left behind soap residue can cause spotting when drying. Use a vertical spray pattern and pay special attention to door jambs, emblems, and under spoilers—any place residue can linger.
Apply Bead Maker: Slick, Glossy, Protected

While the car is still wet, spray a couple of sprays Bead Maker per panel. This product serves three essential purposes:
Lubrication during drying, water is a terrible lubricator. The Bead Maker is very slick and add a layer of lubrication between the drying towel and the paint.
Gloss Enhancement—its hydrophobic beads add instant shine and reflectivity.
Water‑Protection Barrier—creates a temporary seal that beads water, repels light contaminants, and makes your drying experience effortless.
Towel Drying

Finish the process using our premium drying towel—a 70/30 blend of split microfibre at 1000 GSM with a double‑twist weave. Here’s why it’s ideal:
The 70/30 split blend balances absorbency with softness.
1000 GSM density soaks up more water, faster, with fewer passes.
Double‑twist weave prevents edge snags, resists scratching, and delivers a streak‑free finish. It floats over the surface, capturing moisture without damaging the coating.
One towel is enough to dry the entire car. It's even possible to dry multiple cars the the cars are ceramic coated.
Final Thoughts: Clean, Shine, Protect—Every Time
Stick to this proven 8‑step routine and you’ll wash smarter—not harder. With GSF, Bead Maker, and our premium drying towels, you deserve safe washing, swirl‑free results, and showroom-worthy gloss. You won't find any detailing methods better than this.
